Morning in the City

On Sunday we drove around the city a little bit and then headed down Hwy 1 all the way from SF to LA :) Here are a few photos from the city that morning.

Saturday in SF

Saturday morning, we woke up and met up with some friends that live in the Bay Area. We shopped and had lunch and had beer :) Then, later in the evening, we got to go (as VIP’s, no less) to a screening of Dana’s PSA “To the Power of You” (see here!), which won an award and Dana got one of those fancy director’s things that I don’t know the name of :) Afterwards, we were treated to a viewing of “The Greatest Movie Ever Sold” (a Morgan Spurlock project) which was really fun to watch in a room packed with film-makers – LOTS of laughing!

A busy, but really fun day!

So, for my Thirty Days of Thankfulness “project,” I’d have to say that I’m thankful that I now belong to a family full of brilliant, creative, talented people who I love spending time with!

Thirty Days of Thankfulness, Day 4 of 30

I’m catching up from being out of town over the weekend… As we drove up from Southern to Northern California, I was thinking how thankful I am that I live in California :) Although some of my state is overcrowded and I never visit the places most tourists want to see, once you get out of Southern California, the drive between here and San Francisco is GORGEOUS, especially on a rainy/cloudy day! Once we reached the SF area, the great espanses dissappeared and I tried to capture the beauty in traffic. It took us 45 minutes just to cross the Bay Bridge…

Thirty Days of Thankfulness, Day 3 of 30

I’m so thankful for spontaneous road trips!!!

Thirty Days of Thankfulness – Day 2 of 30

I waited too long and didn’t have a chance to take a picture of the girls today, and I wanted to write a little bit about them :) I’m so thankful that they’re healthy, smart, funny, well-rounded, and lovable :) They are really my everything! Our day was so busy with work, then a doctor appointment, then soccer… I just never got to take a picture of them. So I decided to take a picture of our newest endeavor – their morning responsibilities checklist. Today was the first day we did it, and it worked pretty well. They were both so excited to check each thing off that this morning they ate breakfast, then checked that, ran upstairs and got dressed and came down again to check that one off, went up to brush teeth and came down again to check it off, etc. We have to work on the concept that this is supposed to save us time and make mommy not go so completely wacko in the morning over the rat race of it all…

Thirty Days of Thankfulness – Day 1 of 30

Every year friends do this 30 days of thankfulness thing in the month of November and I have never joined in. This year, I feel like I have an overwhelming amount of things to be thankful for, so I’m jumping on the bandwagon.

For Day 1, it was hard to choose one thing, so I am keeping it kind of general. I’m just thankful for my life. Sometimes a rocky road with the minor little details, but smoothed out by love, acceptance, and a sense of belonging that I have never had before. I am thankful for this life, the one I chose :) Getting here hasn’t always been fun, but we truly struggle for the things we believe in, and it makes it all the more worthwhile.

Halloween!

Every year we go to our friends’ house the night of Halloween as they live near downtown and near the street closures and over-the-top decorated houses. It’s lots of fun, but it gets crazier every year! This year, my original costume never materialized as I was lacking a key piece. So I went as the old stand-by for trick-or-treating: a nerd. That’s about all I could muster given I’d already used everything else and didn’t want to wear a costume I’d already worn… It was still fun since it’s really for the kids anyway. Right?!?! Avery and Ainsley wore their costumes for the third time for trick-or-treating and Avery’s was looking pretty sad. Ainsley’s was washable and I’d washed it twice already at this point! Jared’s costume was just wrong… but he sure got a lot of laughs from the fellow adults walking around with kids. I’m glad all the hooplah is over, for now. All this stuff is a huge amount of work.

Belated Birthday Costume Party

Avery had her friends over today for a costume party. It was lots of fun :) I missed taking a few pictures of things I wanted to capture because I was so busy trying to be in charge of all of these kids! But, they all wanted to stay longer than our ‘set’ time so I guess that means they enjoyed themselves…

Cool Cat :)

Ahhhhh, Halloween Costume Day at middle school. I both love it and dread it… I always kind of call it a ‘wash’ and do activites that would otherwise be wasting valuable instruction time. Today we had a raffle – lots of fun for the kids, big headache for the teacher because the kids get so excited and make LOTS of noise :)

And here’s my lame costume for the day. It was actually my costume last year, plus a wig, but I’d ditched the wig by this point because it was too annoying. I was planning to be something else, but one major piece of my costume that I wanted to wear didn’t come in the mail in time. Fooey!
